Small animals require regular dental care

Periodontal disease is the most common disease in dogs and cats, affecting 85% of the population. The disease starts by plaque and bacteria attaching to the tooth. As this happens, the body responds with inflammation to some or all of a tooth’s support, which includes the gingiva. As plaque ages, the bacteria continue to reproduce causing gingivitis to develop further and deeper into the tissues.

The disease becomes more advanced due to bacterial changes, compromising the entire tooth and the surrounding bone, leading to tooth loss. Also, with bacterial constantly present, it can spread to the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys, causing chronic infection and damage to these organs.

Routine Periodontal Treatment

We recommend dogs and cats to have an oral examination at least once a year. In some cases, more frequent examinations and care may be recommended.

Pediatric Dentistry

Young animals can have dental problems related to growth and development. It is important to recognize and treat dental and skeletal issues early on before they lead to oral pain and discomfort. Common conditions include persistent deciduous teeth, impacted and unerupted teeth, malocclusions, juvenile periodontal disease, and dental cyst formation.

Oral Surgery

We perform numerous oral surgery procedures such as extractions, oral tumor treatment plans, dentigerous cyst removal, jaw fracture repair, mandibulectomy, maxillectomy, cleft palate repair, oronasal fistula repair, and foreign body removal.

Oral Disease Management

Many systemic diseases can present in the oral cavity. Some are more common in certain species. We provide diagnostic treatment plans for conditions such as tooth resorption, feline gingivostomatitis, oral immune mediated disorders, canine chronic ulcerative stomatitis (previously known as CUPS).

Periodontics

The most common oral pathology is periodontal disease. We provide routine periodontal treatments and home care recommendations. Advanced treatments include open and closed root planing, gingivectomy, guided tissue regeneration, barrier sealants, perioceutics, and extractions.

Orthodontics

Teeth can develop in an abnormal position creating a malocclusion. Early intervention with orthodontic appliances may allow teeth to align, minimizing trauma of the soft tissues and other teeth. We provide extractions of deciduous teeth, temporary crown extensions, incline planes, and application of active force devices.

Restoration, Endodontics, & Prosthodontics

Our board certified veterinary dentists can provide treatments to save injured teeth. These advanced treatments include root canal therapy, full metal crowns, vital pulp therapy, surgical root canal therapy, and bonded sealants. We also provide restoration of caries, enamel defects, and fractured teeth.
